It is hard to ignore, in our journeys through town, the efforts made by diverse interests to quickly grab our attention through the use of pictograms, signs, symbols and logos. They are present everywhere. Varying in their intentions, they might try to warn us, provide information or sell a product. Signs are the basis for graphic communication and the understanding of signs is affected by their denotative and connotative signification. Denotation refers to the aspect of a sign which is being explicitly communicated while a sign’s connotations are the implied meanings that are culturally created.
The Pictogram project was about creating a series of 5 pictograms developed around some of our favourite activities.
